This Changes Everything
Living in seashore areas in Bangladesh such as the isles (Char) in Vhola district is too much indestructible due to natural calamities such as hurricanes tornados and flood. One of the isles in Vhola is Dhal Char, where people live only with the occupation of fishing during the Hilsa period. It is surrounded by the river Meghna where the east part of the island is decreasing day by day because of river bank erosion. People of those areas live in such an awash way that is way too difficult to live in. The island is marked as one of the most vulnerable areas for natural disaster. As the people’s health and wealth is not in a good situation because of the erosion & flooding, they started to migrate. Lots of them don’t want to go somewhere else but to live there on their own land. Every year they keep themselves prepare to face all those calamities.
In the year 2016, cyclonic storm Roanu caused at least 26 deaths in seven districts across the country, spread severe flooding in Vhola in the month of May. I went there to document the disaster. Several ponds have been flooded & lots of domestic animals have been floated. While they were recovering the damages, I witnessed a child death for the uprising water level of high tide. I realized that death is something to them which they face now & then & it is something which no one can change. People of the land stopped doing everything for the next 24 hours after the accident, and the isle remain silent.
